Film and food were always critic Meredith Brody’s favorite subjects. I read her reviews faithfully when she lived in L.A. She had a weekly column in the New Times. After the New Times demise she moved to San Francisco where she continued her reviews as restaurant critic of the SF Weekly. Her reviews weren’t dry recounts of what she ate, but wonderful little stories with a cast of interesting characters that included a restaurant. While researching this entry I found her now writing about films for the Indiewire blog, Thompson on Hollywood.  She talks about leaving Il Cinema Ritrovato in Bologna and going to Karlovy Vary  International Film Festival in the Czech Republic where she sleeps through the opening night film and the afterparty. Brody writes so well, that  for those brief moments of reading I am also there.
