The eternally glamourous Hadda Brooks

Hadda Brooks, the woman who was known as the “Queen of the Boogie” was born on October 29, 1916 and raised in the Boyle Heights section of Los Angeles.  Her Mother was a doctor and her father (whom she never mentioned) was a deputy sheriff.  She lived up the street from the Coffee Shop, near Edith Fellows, and usually came in for a late lunch and sat at a table by herself.  She always ordered both coffee and coca cola with her meal.  She was always well dressed, fully made up, and wore sparkly butterfly clips in her hair.  I usually sat with her and little by little she told me stories about her life.  She was married to a Harlem Globetrotter, and she loved him very much.  He died about a year after they were married. And she never married again.
